A Manager is Not Exactly a Soccer Coach

Although it is always tempting to use the sports coach as an example for the role of a manager, but one should realize immediately that the manager is not a coach.

The main differences reside in three topics: career, team and culture.

The career of a sport-professional is hardly to compare with that of a business professional. We often compare these, and metaphors of the mountain-climbing expedition can help to show some similarities, but both careers are two different things.

A professional career is focused on offering a productive solution in a business. Some careers have a stand-alone or autonomic characteristic, but most are performed within a team and an organizational setting. The diversity of a professional career -- whatever the area of expertise -- requires a complete different management approach. This becomes visible in the personal performance indicator. The sportsman main performance indicator is attributable to the score of the team and his stake in this (giving the right pass, scoring, defense, etc...) The personal performance indicator of a professional is first of all determined by the business environment the expert is working in.

The role of the coach versus manager in either team is different too. The coach has a professional (career) background in the sports, but he is not actually playing in the game. The manager on the other hand is. In fact his position can better be compared with that of "the setter" in a volleyball game who is somehow orchestrating the game. The manager is a setter too in delegating tasks to the different team members.

The team characteristics of a one in sport and on the other side one in business is also hardly the same. One team sport or the other requires similar professionals. In business however a sale steam, production team or one focused on training and education in human resources, a remotely similar. In this sense, in some cases it is possible that a manager look similar to that of a coach (for example in a sales environment where scoring a close is similar to scoring a goal), but in others it is not; in an educational environment where a trainer is presenting a course. Managing a group of trainers is not the same as managing a sport steam of players.

Than the organizational culture. This is the last part where sports and business each have their unique features. The culture of soccer is an international culture, where players are transferred over teams. Basketball is different than soccer, but both have a similar culture. Than the LA Lakers may have a unique style to another club.

In business however there are also cultural differences, but they are more complex as in one organization, there are teams that play soccer, basket and handball as if it was the same business game. This is much more complex than the culture of a sports club.

That's way sports can give an example of the features of management, but business management is much more complicated. That's why the next chapter will start with a new biography, of which you can think of that of your own business curriculum. When reading it, think about your own career, the teams you have participated in and the cultures you have experienced on your path...

Samuel Eto'o

Samuel Eto'o, although he seems to have been playing at the top level for such a long time, was, in fact, born in March 1981 in Nkon, Cameroon. Seemingly followed by controversy, Eto'o signed for Real Madrid as a 16 year old and had, to put it mildly, a strange relationship with the club from then on.

Firstly, upon his arrival at Madrid airport, young Samuel was famously forgotten about - a young black African with no Spanish hanging around an airport; an inauspicious beginning. After uneventful loan spells at Leganés and Espanyol, the coltish-looking Eto'o found himself loaned out to Mallorca, where he really began to show off his credentials.

Scoring 54 goals, Eto'o became the islanders' highest league goal scorer and developed a real affinity with the supporters there - and he famously scored a spectacular individual goal against Madrid in the Bernabeu! Eto'o enjoyed his relationship with Mallorca so much that, when they reached the Copa del Rey final in 2003, he paid out €30,000 on a meal for them!

At the end of his loan spell, the Real Madrid supporters were almost unanimous in their desire for Samuel to return to the capital and compete for the forward positions with Raul and Ronaldo. What followed was a summer of continuous speculation and argument and eventually, for €24 million, the player signed for Barcelona - something that still annoys many Real Madrid fans.

Since then, Eto'o has scored goals galore for the Catalan giants. In his first, championship-winning season, Eto'o scored 25 league goals, including the title-clinching strike at Levante. He reached 50 goals in just 67 matches - a club record.

In addition to wining African Footballer of the year a record three times in succession from 2003, Samuel was part of the Cameroon side that won the African Cup in 2000 and 2002 and was runner-up in 2008. Previously, he had been the youngest player, at 17 years and 3 months, in the 1998 World Cup. He was the pichichi, top goal scorer, in La Liga in 2005/06, when, of course, he scored an equalising goal in the Champions' League final against Arsenal.

Controversy has never been far away, however. After winning the league in 2005, Eto'o made the mistake of singing an abusive song about Madrid during the on-pitch celebrations. He has also been famously outspoken in his denouncements of racial abuse chanted in grounds - even threatening to walk off during one league game at Zaragova. Furthermore, there were times during 2007/08 season when Samuel Eto'o seemed a very forlorn figure, when his relationship with some of the other players was not at its best. At the end of the season, it seemed that the club were determined to transfer Ronaldinho, Deco and Eto'o, the perceived bad influences at the club. Eto'o, though, with typical determination, was adamant that his future was still with Barcelona - and he has proved to be absolutely correct.

Samuel Eto'o is fast, two-footed, brave and a totally committed team player and arguably the best centre forward in modern football.

Latw Tutorial

Trick Explained MORE!
Description:
This is a tutorial that will help you do the advanced freestyle trick of Around the World. Learn how to do this trick and become a more advanced soccer freestyler.

Explanation:
I know this sounds impossible but it is quite simple with some practice.

This trick has the Around the World (ATW) trick principles except you have to make sure you get around the ball twice as you have to jump immediately after beginning the ATW. So once you begin to do the ATW trick you jump off your left leg to give yourself enough time to go around the ball twice. Make sure that you kick the ball high enough and wrap your foot around the ball quick enough for this trick to work. You should practice the Around the World trick and be able to perform it cleanly before trying to do this advanced trick.

Don't be down on yourself if you don't get it the first couple of tried. This advanced freestyle move needs practice so don't give up until you can do it properly because in the end it looks pretty mad and your audience will be stunned.

Hop the world Tutorial - Soccer Freestyle

The hop the world soccer trick(Also called htw) is similar to the around the world soccer trick! So if you already know how to do the around the world this trick will come very easily to you!

Explained More!
Hop the World (HTW) - Inside Version

This trick is like an inside ATW but hitting the ball up with the other leg. The Hop the World (HTW) freestyle trick is very important for combos. While juggling hit the ball a little higher than normal. Don’t give the ball extra effect or anything of that sort, just give it a higher kick-up. While putting your foot down, go around the ball with your other leg with an inside direction. Finish the trick as a normal inside Around the World (ATW). Some people learn the trick by jumping a little with the juggle before the trick. This is easier but doesn't look as nice. The first way is harder, but a lot easier to do in combos. Try to find the perfect height for the ball. Too high gives you more time, but makes the rotation harder, while too low allows very little time but gives your leg much space. Don’t give up and practice. This is one of the hardest tricks for beginners, but it’s definitely worth it. Your weak leg may especially cause problems, but try it. Your weak leg must get used to doing tricks as well.

Hop the World (HTW) - Outside Version

This trick is not used very often, and very few people do it in combos. Mastering this trick however gives you an advantage in learning other hard tricks like the ATATW. It’s also good for the speed of your leg in outside directions and improves your outside ATW’s. Kick the ball up like you would in an inside ATW. When your foot comes down, kick in the air next to the ball and above your other foot. Now your leg has speed and finish the move as an outside ATW.

How to do the Around the World Soccer Trick(ATW) - Soccer Freestyle

In this article you're going to learn how to do the around the world soccer trick. Also known as the Atw.

Explained More: Description:
A tutorial on how to do the inside and outside Around the World freestyle soccer trick. This guide should put you in the right direction to learn the trick.

Explanation:

Around the World (ATW)- Outside

Around the world is the most famous and most used trick in freestyle. To do it, you have to go around the ball with your leg while juggling the ball before it hits the ground. Try to make the hitting and the rising of your leg one movement. Hit the ball on your small toe-area on your shoe (or foot) and try to give the ball a little effect and at the same time go around the ball with your leg. The height of the ball should be approximately at knee-height. Some freestylers first learn the trick from the foot-stall position. This is easier as you have more control. Let the ball roll a very little bit to the side of your foot and then make the move. And don’t think you can do it after 3 or 4 tries; practice is the key and remember that every freestyler had to start here once. If you get the ball too high, try to hit it more with the side of your foot. If it’s too low, try to hit the ball more with the middle of your foot.

Around the World (ATW) - Inside

The same as the outside Around the world, but in the opposite direction. Hit the ball somewhere around your big toe and make the move. Remember that the height of the ball is more important than the speed of your leg.
